What we collect

When you create an account

To sign in you provide an email address and a password. The password is handled by Google Firebase Authentication and is never visible to us.

When you subscribe

To take a mobile money payment we need the phone number you want to pay from. That number is passed to our payment provider, ZynlePay (Zynle Technologies Limited), who processes the transaction with your mobile network. We store a record of each payment, including the phone number used, the amount, the plan chosen and whether the payment succeeded.

We never see or store your mobile money PIN. You enter it on your own phone, on a prompt from your network, and it is never sent to us.

While you use the app

We store which lessons you have opened and your quiz results, so the app can show your progress. We also record when your subscription starts and when it expires.

What we do with it

• Sign you in and keep you signed in.
• Take payments and give you access to the content you have paid for.
• Show you your own progress through the lessons and quizzes.
• Contact you about your account or a payment, if something needs sorting out.
• Understand which lessons are used most, so we know what to make more of.

We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not show advertising in the app.

Who else is involved

Star Prep is built on services provided by other companies. Where they handle your information, their own privacy policies apply as well as ours.

• Google Firebase — account sign-in, the database that stores your account and progress, and app hosting.
• ZynlePay (Zynle Technologies Limited) — mobile money payment processing.
• YouTube — video lessons are played through YouTube's player, which may set its own cookies and collect viewing data under Google's privacy policy.

Other than these, we do not share your information with anyone, except where we are required to by Zambian law.

Students under 18

Star Prep is made for Grade 12 students, and many of them are under 18. We collect as little as the app needs to work, we do not show advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.

If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before you subscribe, since a payment is involved. If a parent or guardian wants to see what we hold about their child, or wants it deleted, email us and we will act on it.

How long we keep things

We keep your account and progress for as long as your account exists. Payment records are kept longer, because we need them for accounting and to resolve any dispute about a transaction. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your account and progress, and keep only the minimum payment records we are obliged to keep.

Your choices

• See what we hold. Ask us and we will tell you.
• Correct it. If something is wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
• Delete your account. Email us and we will delete it.
• Stop paying. Subscriptions do not renew on their own. If you do nothing, access simply ends.

Keeping it safe

Your information is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure. Connections between the app and our servers are encrypted. Payment credentials are held securely on the server side and are never stored inside the app on your phone.

No system is perfectly secure. If something goes wrong in a way that affects your information, we will tell you.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and change the date below. If the change is significant, we will tell you in the app.
